Reminder: consultation by Chiltern District Council

Posted on: September 26th, 2013 by George Eykyn

The deadline for submissions to Chiltern District Council in relation to their public consultation regarding possible sites for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople is 14 October.  We remind residents that one of the sites (“Area 4”) identified as potentially suitable is the field on Denham Lane next to Winkers nightclub close to the Estate.

Chalfont Heights Roads Committee will be making a submission. We expect to post it on our website next week, so residents who wish to make their own submissions can refer to it.

It is our understanding that the Parish Council and the local campaign group SENSE will also be responding to the consultation.

We have been made aware that SENSE is concerned that the procedure for making submissions might be confusing: the group says its representatives will be available in Chalfont St Peter village this coming Saturday, 28th September to offer explanations of the consultation procedure and discuss points that they consider relevant to it.

Open meeting with Police & Crime Commissioner

Posted on: September 9th, 2013 by George Eykyn

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley, Anthony Stansfeld, is to hold a public meeting in Amersham at Chiltern District Council.

The event will be an opportunity for the PCC along with the Local Police Area Commander, Steve Hockin, to meet and greet residents and deliver presentations about the role of the PCC and local policing in Chiltern. A representative from the Community Safety Partnership will also be in attendance to tell the public more about the work they carry out in the area.

Residents can also ask questions and feedback any concerns they have about policing and crime.

The meeting will take place in at the Council Chamber, Chiltern District Council Offices in Amersham on Monday 23 September at 7pm.

Members of the public can also ask questions prior to the event or get involved during it by using the hash tag #AskPCC_Chiltern on Twitter.

Questions can also be submitted by emailing [email protected].

Important consultation on local planning

Posted on: September 1st, 2013 by George Eykyn

Chiltern District Council has published details of a public consultation regarding Gypsy, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople Site Options which will run from 2nd September to 14th October.

Full details can be found on the Council’s website, at http://www.chiltern.gov.uk/planning/deliverydevelopmentplandocument

This is part of a lengthy process. The Council emphasises that although it has identified potential sites at this stage of the process, that does not mean that those sites are acceptable in planning terms, since all of them are on Green Belt land.

Area 4 identified in the document is a field on the Winkers Farm site between Winkers nightclub and the Scout Camp. The Chalfont Heights Estate holds restrictive covenants over the fields belonging to Winkers Farm.

The Council acknowledges that the owners of the site have not yet even been contacted to determine whether they are prepared to allow the site to be used.

Chalfont Heights Roads Committee Limited will be submitting a response to the Council’s consultation. Residents of the estate may wish to submit individual responses and should follow the procedure set out on the Council’s website.

Rob Burge – a tribute

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Rob Burge, who was a Chalfont Heights Roads Committee member from 2003- 2013. He passed away on 28th April.

Rob lived on the Estate for almost thirty years. He was an engineer and highly experienced insurance assessor whose work took him to all parts of the world inspecting, investigating and analysing the sites of crashed aircraft on behalf of insurers.

He was a man with many interests, including quite arduous walking: he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and had reached the base camp of Mount Everest. Rob was an enthusiast for sports cars of the 1950s, and was the proud owner of two MGAs. He also enjoyed life afloat as the owner of two boats.

Rob was a very active Committee member and had responsibility for the repair and maintenance of the roads, ensuring that the Estate roads were maintained to a high standard, whilst carefully controlling the costs of what is the largest single item of our annual expenditure. During last winter, between quite long spells in hospital, he kept the grit bins filled and assisted with spreading during icy weather to keep our roads open to traffic.

Rob’s sound, logical judgement, calm disposition and good natured enthusiasm made a significant contribution to the effective management and running of the Estate over the past ten years. He also served on the Parish Council in Chalfont St Peter from 1987 to 1991.

Our condolences and thoughts are with Rob’s wife Paula, son Andrew and daughter Claire. On 16th May, the Parish Church of St Peter was packed with friends and family for a celebration of his life.

Donations in Rob’s memory, in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, may be made at this website: http://www.justgiving.com/robertburge

Thanks to Derek Bryan, former Chairman, who is the principal author of this tribute.

Many of you will have heard that very sadly Rob Burge recently passed away after his brave struggle against leukaemia.

Rob was a faithful, enthusiastic and diligent servant of Chalfont Heights and was a committee member for many years. He lived at Simla, Chiltern Hill.

The church service to celebrate Rob’s life is in the Chalfont St Peter parish church at 11am on Thursday 16th May.

Thereafter his committal will be at the Amersham Crematorium, followed by a reception at BUCKS GOLF CLUB (the one at the Denham roundabout).  We hope to post a tribute to Rob on the estate website following the funeral.

Heights youngsters raise money for Comic Relief

Youngsters Luke & Natasha from Upway and their two school friends Lucy & Katie want to thank Chalfont Heights residents who kindly supported their fundraising efforts in aid of Comic Relief.

The children spent several hours baking cakes and biscuits in the kitchen, and then offered them last Sunday to willing neighbours in Chiltern Hill, Lincoln Road & Woodside Hill.

The goodies were free but recipients made voluntary donations to Comic Relief. The children say they raised £128.30, which will all be forwarded to the charity.

The youngsters said: “We’d like to thank everyone who donated for their good spirit, kindness and generosity. Hope you enjoyed the cakes!”
