Chiltern Hill bridge has been closed today

Posted on: February 10th, 2014 by Alan Lane

Chiltern Hill bridge has been closed today, Monday 10th February, to enable the telephone mast to be removed.  We received no notice of this closure from either Bucks County Council or from Galliford Try, the contractors for o2.  The closure is for today only, but the contractors expect there to be traffic lights on the bridge for several days thereafter.  They also expect a further closure next week for installation of a new mast but are not able to say when that will be.

Chiltern Hill – Update

Temporary closure of Chiltern Hill below the Island

Thames Water’s contractor arrived on Monday, 6th January to carry out remedial work on the sewer below the island on Chiltern Hill. Chiltern Hill will be closed at some point either this or next week and we will update the website and email residents once we have further information on the works from Thames Water.

Road subsidence in Lewis Lane

An area of subsidence has developed in the road surface outside Overcombe in Lewis Lane, it is on the driving line but can, with care, be avoided. Thames Water re investigated the road surface and intend to come back within the next 12 to 15 days, they have advised that us that the sewer drain is structurally fit.

If there is further subsidence before remedial work can be carried out, we may have to consider closing Lewis Lane above Bochym.  In the meantime, please be very careful.

Chiltern Hill Leak – Latest Update From Bob Burge

Posted on: September 13th, 2012 by Alan Lane
A two man team from Thames Water contractors, Cappagh, arrived on site this morning and commenced hand clearing the site in the area of the sewer pipe. Cappagh Contracts supervisor arrived shortly afterwards and was very unhappy with the condition of the site and immediately closed it down on health and safety grounds; both to work crew and general public. He organised grab lorries to clear all current spoil, erection of steel fence sections around the site to protect public, and a trench box to protect crews working in the hole.
He also requested a CCTV camera to insert into the sewer pipe to establish the full extent of the damage, the results of which will determine the extent of any further excavation of the road in the vicinity of the current site. He estimates that the work will take between 2/3 days from now depending upon the results of the camera insertion.

Collapsed Pipe Chiltern Hill – Update

Posted on: September 10th, 2012 by Alan Lane

With thanks to Bob Burge and Mark Simmons, the news today is that:

Contractors for Thames Water have exposed the sewage pipe and confirmed that it had collapsed. They advised that the break did not appear to be confined to the immediate area of the inital break but extended back for an as yet undetermined distance, in the direction of the island at the junction of Chiltern Hill with Ellis Avenue.

They did not have the equipment to proceed further during today and departed in the early evening indicating that a larger team with appropriate machinery and shoring for the walls of the hole would return on Tuesday morning.

Since the breakage has effectively blocked the line at this location, the suction tanker will stay on site throughout the night (Mon-Tues) to remove waste coming down from upper Chiltern Hill. No properties below the breakage will be affected, as the pipe in this area is intact and operational.

Further updates will follow in due course.
